CanWeb Printing Inc., at 185 South Service Road West, Grimsby, ON, hosted a “Business After 5” networking event for members of the Stoney Creek Chamber of Commerce and the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, on Wednesday, March 28th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

It was very well attended by 52 members of the two Chambers, including 30 from the Stoney Creek Chamber.  Congratulations to those who came out to support your fellow Chamber members!

Liz and her team put their “heart and soul” into the event, which was evident by the involvement of staff, and the interest displayed by the Chamber members.

CanWeb Printing Inc. has now been in existence for over 20 years.  While it has experienced change and growth, many of the employees who were there on “day one” are still there.  That tells you something about their love of the industry, and the sense of “family” in the management style of the owners, which is a big part of this company’s success.

There were for separate tours that evening, covering the major areas of the business, followed by a reception with refreshments.  First, we viewed the “cold web press” in operation, an awesome sequence of printing units capable of printing 20,000 newspapers an hour!  Next was the finishing area with the “binding line” also called the saddle stitch and the guillotine.  There are lots of safety features on this machine which is quite impressive in its shearing capabilities.

The “computer to plate” area (CTP) utilizes sublime screening to maximize the sharpness of the dots in the printing process as the plates are made.  And finally, the newest addition to the business is the impressive “Xerox 770 – 14’ digital press” which is located in the newly designed computer graphics department.  This machine dies “amazing” things allowing for more flexibility to produce smaller quantities of “shiny printed things” at a very reasonable price.

The company is very proud of its “FSC” designation which is the mark of responsible forestry in its use of paper products. CanWeb is also certified “EcoLogo” for its use of certified printer inks (fully recyclable) and chemistry free printer plates.

CanWeb is the only locally owned printer with both of these certifications and they are very proud to be known as “Niagara’s Green Printer”.

Call Liz or Garry or Mike M. or Mike D. and arrange a time to come for a tour.  You will be sure to be “impressed”.
